He established his own company in 2010 - SajeImpact Ltd. He also undertook a wide variety of voluntary roles as seen below.
He joined the Board of the CCPR in 2010 whilst it was rebranding to be known as the Sport & Recreation Alliance. He was elected as Chair by the Board in 2011 and took over the reigns in July 2011. In 2010 he was presented the Arthur Bell Trophy by the CCPR for his contribution to Sport over his 13 year life as an MP. He had been made a life member of the CCPR for his work in sport in 2006.
Andy undertook and completed Sport England Fellowships with the RFU and with the BOA.
He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department of Culture Media and Sport in 1998 - working with Sports Minister Kate Hoey until 2001. Throughout the next decade Sports Ministers used Andy for policy advice using his connections to sport in Loughborough. In 2007 the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown asked Andy to oversee the publication of the 2010 Sports Manifesto.
Andy is a keen sportsman. He still plays rugby for his home club Birstall RFC where he stood down as President in 2011 after a decade of service. His President Day games at Birstall became a highlight for the club. He played plenty of sport in Parliament. He represented the Lords & Commons at Rugby Union, Rugby League, Cricket, Tennis, Hockey, Football and captained the swimming team. He has travelled the world with Rugby.
He serves as Chair of his County Sports Partnership - in Leicestershire since 2005/06. Prior to this he was Chair of the East Midlands Regional Sports Board. He also Chairs the Leicestershire 2012 Steering Committee - Inpsire Leicestershire 2012.
He was a Board Member of the Special Olympics in Leicester for the 2009 games.
He is still using his experience in sport by serving on the Boards of the Amateur Swimming Association (Independent Member 2010-12), as Chair of the VolleyBall Foundation, as a Board Member of the Special Olympics GB. He also serves as a Director of the BBL Foundation. He sits on the SportsMatch Panel for Sport England.
Andy has had a passion to see sport policy developed for the long term benefit of participants rather than short term 'political gain' from his experience over the last 15 years at the heart of the process. He has argued consistently that a Sports Think Tank would help develop the link between academic research and evidence based decision making at the heart of government and allow sport to be challenging of itself.
