New Government Takes Shape

Following the unexpected General election result Theresa May is in the process of forming a new government with support from the DUP. A Queens Speech is expected some time next week. I am sure not many of our readers expected to see a hung parliament if most of the Polls had been right. Clearly YouGov got something right.

So what does this all mean for existing Sport and physical activity policy?

Manifesto - Labour First Out of the Blocks

So, we are just over three weeks away from the surprise general election and the Party manifestos are being produced this week. The first to be launched was Labour on the 16th May in Bradford. Of course, we have been eagerly awaiting the policy announcements here at the Sports Think Tank.

Increasing Pressure on the basic foundations of Sport & Recreation?

The last few stories we have covered this week at the Think Tank point to a bleak future for the very foundations of sport, recreation and physical activity in the UK. Reports about the dominance of public schools in the make up of Team GB, school sport pressures and cuts to our Public Parks all point to increasing pressure on our system.

The Future for School Sport and PE

As the nation continues to reflect on the success of Team GB in the Olympics and the Paralympics attention is returning to School Sport and PE as we head into the new term. The news over the summer in the long awaited Obesity strategy that schools would play a crucial role in delivering greater levels of Physical Activity were certainly welcomed.
