Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport calls for FIFA to publish Garcia Report

Sajid Javid MP, the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport has today followed FA Chairman Greg Dyke by calling on Fifa to publish the full findings of its investigation into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding process.

In a letter to FIFA President to Sepp Blatter, Javid argues Fifa's handling of the fiasco surrounding the report and allegedly mis-interpreting lawyer Mark Garcia's findings "further calls into question their independence and transparency".

This is the latest intervention from the UK Government on controversy surrounding the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. The Culture, Media and Sport Committee held a one-off evidence session considering the bidding process for the World Cup tournament in 2022 in July earlier this year.

This followed a previous inquiry into the 2018 World Cup Bid when the Committee considered the strength of the English bid and raised concerns over the integrity of FIFA's bidding processes for 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
