Triennial Review secures future for Sport England and UK Sport

The triennial review of the two non-departmental public bodies responsible for distributing funds for sport in the UK, Sport England and UK Sport, initiated by former Minister for Sport Helen Grant, has decided that both bodies should continue in their current form for the foreseeable future. After the announcement in 2013 that there would be no merger of the two bodies, this review published an online survey and drew opinions on the current roles and effectiveness of Sport England and UK Sport in interviews with over 50 stakeholders across government departments, NGBs, national sports organisations, local authorities and academics.

The 'clear and consistent' response was that Sport England and UK Sport are fulfilling their current functions and are essential in their current form. The review considers other possible delivery models to the present arrangement and concludes that no other alternative would deliver any better value or greater benefit.

Recommendations made in the report include: improved cooperation for Sport England and UK Sport on the functions of talent, participation and the governance of NGBs; greater action on diversity; and continued cost and efficiency savings through shared resources.
