Unanimous Support from APPG for Boxing for Further Work in prisons

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Boxing met today in Westminster and following the publication of Rosie Meek's Independent Review of Sport in Youth and Adult Pisons (2018) agreed to work together to pursue the policy of including Boxing in the programmes of prisons.

The APPG heard from Barry Hearn, Dr Phillip Lee MP, Rupert Reid from Policy Exchange and Fight for Freedom as well as the as those representing the sport of boxing.

Andy Reed said " There was a strong consensus that Boxing had a role to play in prisons as part of an approach to physical activity, discipline and motivation. There appears to be good evidence around about its positive impact - which needs to be collated and shared better - but the politics need to be better understood and navigated to ensure the policies outline in the work done by Rosie Meek and Dr Phillip Lee are not lost.
