London Mayor's New Sports Strategy

The Mayor of London has published his Sport for All of Us strategy, following its official adoption by the London Assembly.

The strategy, which was first launched for consultation in the summer, looks to highlight the importance of sport in "breaking down barriers and building stronger communities" across the capital.

The strategy includes a commitment by the Mayor to invest £8.8m in supporting projects which use sport to boost social integration, increase participation, and deliver physical and mental wellbeing benefits to Londoners of all backgrounds and communities.

The Mayor of London's office will now begin working with partners, such as London Sport, to deliver the new strategy.

Tove Okunniwa, CEO of London Sport, said: "The publication of the Mayor of London's new Sport Strategy signals a bright future for physical activity in London.

"The positive impact of physical activity and sport on Londoners' lives has long been understood, and the Mayor's commitment to accessing sport's full potential to achieve social integration outcomes is an exciting new frontier for the capital.

"London Sport looks forward to supporting the Mayor and his team as we work together to make London the undisputed sporting capital of the world."

Founded in 2014 – two years after the London Olympics – London Sport aims to make the capital the most physically active city in the world and has set itself a target of getting 1 million Londoners more physically active by 2020.
