#sportbrexitdeal

As the consequences of the vote to leave the EU start to send shockwaves through the economy, and the political system we need to be the calm reasoned voice of the sports business sector in dealing with government over the coming months.

As we still don't know what the #brexit plan is from the leave camp we have to start the work of planning what the best deal for the Sport Sector could and should look like.

We saw the Prime Minister launch the EU team in the Cabinet Office yesterday as a prelude to the new Prime Minister taking over in the Autumn - and only then deciding how and when to invoke Article 50 on our membership withdrawal. There is a lot of politics to steer through in the coming months.

At the Sports Think Tank we are here to help. We will align our work closely with the work in the Cabinet Office and ensure that we as a sector work to raise the issues they need to work on and what the best deal for the sector would look like. The talk is already about how we get access to the benefits of the Single Market. Clearly our European partners are not going to give this away cheaply without a whole series of strings attached. So there is plenty of detail to come and for lengthy (2-5 years) and detailed negotiations to be the centre of attention for some time.

Politically we are writing today when the Labour Party doesn't even have a Shadow CMS SoS and we are unclear if the leader will survive. The PM has already signalled he is going and we will be watching and writing about the front runners and their commitment to sport as we know who they are.

We live in interesting times.
