Climate Change and Sustainability of Sport

The issue of the Climate Emergency is rightly impacting on all aspects of life - and sport has a role to play.

Over the coming months and years we will highlight areas of best practise across the sector and provide links to organisations, initiatives, programmes and events linked to the issue.

As always our approach is to collaborate across the sector and allow others to lead where they have the greatest expertise. We just want to create a safe space to share, discuss and plan how the sector responds. Feel free to share anything with us to share with our network. We are here to help!

A really good starting point for all things sport and sustainability is BASIS -

Sport, Climate and Environmental Sustainability – a Systems View

Introductory narrative

This is the first of what we hope will be a series of blogs on relationships between sport and climate.

Steve Wood and Chris Cutforth are collaborating on this initiative. Steve is a personal and organisational development coach and facilitator who has worked extensively with the sport and cultural sectors over many years. Chris is an educator and researcher at Sheffield Hallam University's Department of Sport and Physical Activity.

Together they share a passionate concern about the climate emergency and are keen to hear from others in and around the sport sector who share this interest and concern and want to make a difference.
