The new strategy aims to address the fundamental challenges facing sport, and particularly community sport, in England. As such it features a significant shift in focus and direction.

The Department of Health (DH) asked the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE or the Institute) to produce public health guidance on the promotion and creation of physical environments that support increased levels of physical activity.

This article will evaluate the role of sports clubs in delivering national community sport policy, particularly in relation to increasing participation in sport and reducing the proportion of young people dropping out of sport.
